3 Tips To Prevent Your Gravel Driveway From Being Too Dusty

Industrial & Manufacturing Blog

There are lots of things to love about gravel driveways -- they're more affordable than paved driveways, for example, and they are relatively easy to maintain. One problem, however, is the fact that gravel driveways can be very dusty. If you want to prevent this dust, consider these helpful tips.

1. Install Windbreaks

Wind blowing around and over your gravel driveway can cause dust to become more of an issue. Luckily, installing windbreaks can help. For example, installing fencing along both sides of your gravel driveway is a good way to help cut down on the wind that blows over and around the driveway. You can also use big, tall shrubbery around your driveway to serve a similar purpose. This can help eliminate some of the dust and can look nice, too.

2. Keep it Wet

Another great way to help cut down on the dust from your gravel driveway is to make sure that you keep the gravel moist. If you allow the gravel to get too dry, especially over an extended period of time, you can expect for the dust to become an even worse problem. Luckily, spraying down your gravel driveway with a water hose or using a sprinkler system to keep the driveway a little bit moist will help cut down on the dust. Just make sure that you don't use too much water because that will cause the gravel to become displaced and can create "potholes." Just a light misting should be enough to help cut down on the driveway dust.

3. Use Road Dust Suppression Products

There are road dust suppression products on the market that are often used with dirt or gravel driveways. These products are sometimes used on industrial driveways, where big trucks often carry loads up and down the gravel driveways. However, even if your driveway is not used as often, these products can be useful. There are a few different kinds of road dust suppression products, such as powders and oils, that can be used to help cut down on the dust. Just make sure that you follow the instructions on the packaging for best results.

As you can see, there are a few things that you can do to help prevent your gravel driveway from being too dusty. If you follow these three tips, you can help eliminate this problem so that you can make the most out of your gravel driveway.
